THE HISTORY OF LINCOLN: The band takes its name from Lincoln Fargo - the central character in Sam Fuller's epic celluloid portrayal of Jim Thompson's 1946 novel Heed the Thunder. Fargo is a craggy old confederate who observes the incestuous, lusty & violent goings-on in his hometown of Verdon, Nebraska at the turn of the Century. A country town dragging itself painfully into the modern age. Every character is tinged with doom. It is a forgotten classic of American literature. But how can this have anything to do with happy-go-lucky LINCOLN? The book is a product of the depression; the pace of the writing is slow, brooding and long. It is an alternative take on country, as is our music. OK, I'm taking this way too far but it is a brilliant book and I love the idea of a stern, craggy patriarch sitting atop our music casting a tired and cynical eye at it's twisted development.
